Income Shapes Access to Care

Who Can Afford to Age Well?

Income can influence access to residential and nursing care. Across the six cities, the distribution of population across income groups appears similar, with the largest share of residents in the middle income range between 50k and 100k. Despite these similarities, the number of facilities does not vary strongly across income categories. This suggests that income does not seem to explain very well where facilities are located, and overall population size plays a larger role in shaping the care infrastructure.

This comparison helps show that while affordability remains an important factor for accessing care, differences in facility availability across cities are better understood alongside population size, immigration patterns, and community composition, rather than income alone. Next, we bring these demographic factors together to develop a more complete picture of how care infrastructure aligns with immigrant communities across cities.
